Relative notions of civility are part of everyday human existence. Individual and communal decisions about right and wrong are inevitably influenced by sweeping cultural and economic forces, each accompanied by various cause-effect scenarios. The methods to determine morality and ethics are based on personal inclinations as well as broader institutions of what society deems acceptable behavior. In an age of increasing swindle and Ponzi scheme and deeply engrained government and religious practices of instilling fear to control behavior how does integrity and morality remain in tact?

Winter of Our Discontent features works of art that simultaneously address morality within contemporary practices and actions of governments and individuals as well as its relation to a history of social instability and secrecy that marks the 1950s and ‘60s. Examining issues of immigration, class, security, corporate conglomerates, land development, urbanization and more, the exhibition considers public and private behavior in relation to contemporary conditions of morality.

Publication accompanies exhibition.
