Take It Outside: Art in Public Space

Visiting Professor, Visual & Performing Arts
Bennington College, Bennington, VT
2010–14

Offered as an undergraduate course in critical theory and contemporary art, this course took shape through a series of readings, screenings and conversations about artists whose work is responsive to different social contexts and public spaces. Examining a period from 1975 to 2010, while concentrating on the 2000s, the course looked at work by artists such as Group Material, Art Workers’ Coalition, Martha Rosler, and Guerrilla Art Action Group.

The course featured a series of video conferences with artists, which included organizing a work with visiting artist Ben Kinsley who was in residence at Bennington the final week of the term. That part of the course culminated an exhibition and performance made collaboratively with Kinsley.
